September 2026 at a glance — key facts

The 8 September fare change: from 8 September 2026, Air France and KLM award tickets split into Light, Standard, and Flex fares. Promo Award pricing applies to the new Light fare — which in Economy no longer includes a checked bag, and in Business no longer includes lounge access. Book before 8 September and you get the old single-fare terms; book after and you may need to pay miles or cash to add a bag or lounge access back. This affects Air France/KLM-operated routes only, not partner-operated ones.

The economy deals —
two tiers, familiar shape

For standard Flying Blue members, September's headline economy price is 18,750 miles one-way, a 25% reduction from the standard 25,000-mile price, on a broad North American list. A second, farther-zone tier at 22,500 miles one-way covers Asia, West Africa, and the French Caribbean/Guiana. Both tiers are bookable for travel through 28 February 2027.

18,750 miles one-way

Route Standard Promo price Access
Europe → New York (JFK) 25,000 18,750 All members
Europe → Washington (IAD) 25,000 18,750 All members

Europe → Cayenne (CAY) 30,000 22,500 All members
Europe → Fort-de-France (FDF) 30,000 22,500 All members
Europe → Cape Town (CPT) 30,000 22,500 Flying Blue Extra only

One outlier this month: Europe → San Diego (SAN) prices at 30,000 miles one-way in Economy — the same mile cost as this month's Premium Economy tier below, not a typo. That's distance and demand pricing, not a cabin upgrade; San Diego just doesn't fit neatly into the 18,750/22,500 Economy ladder this month.

Every route runs on Air France and/or KLM metal, to or from Europe, with connections through Paris or Amsterdam included on the same award ticket. For a Swiss resident the practical routing is unchanged: ZRH or GVA → CDG or AMS (a cheap positioning flight, or a free connection on the award itself) → your destination.

Premium Economy —
still the quiet value pick

Six cities sit at 30,000 miles one-way — a 25% cut from the standard 40,000-mile floor — and a second, farther-zone tier at 37,500 miles one-way covers Shanghai for every member and San Jose (California) for Flying Blue Extra subscribers.

30,000 miles one-way

Route Standard Promo price Access
Europe → New York (JFK) 40,000 30,000 All members
Europe → San Francisco (SFO) 40,000 30,000 All members
Europe → Boston (BOS) 40,000 30,000 All members
Europe → Vancouver (YVR) 40,000 30,000 All members
Europe → Toronto (YYZ) 40,000 30,000 Flying Blue Extra only

37,500 miles one-way

Route Standard Promo price Access
Europe → Shanghai (PVG) 50,000 37,500 All members
Europe → San Jose, CA (SJC) 50,000 37,500 Flying Blue Extra only

A wider seat with more legroom and better food for 30,000-37,500 miles one-way remains a strong redemption — cash equivalents for Premium Economy on these routes typically run CHF 1,400-2,800 depending on distance.

Business Class —
North America is back on the menu

Unlike August, September has a Business Class Promo Award to North America: Minneapolis and Mexico City at 45,000 miles one-way, a 25% cut from the standard 60,000-mile transatlantic rate. Beyond that, a longer-haul tier at 63,750 miles covers Asia and South America, and a single farther tier at 90,000 miles reaches Papeete for Flying Blue Extra subscribers.

Minneapolis at 45,000 miles one-way is the pick of the month for a Swiss resident — a genuine transatlantic Business Class discount, open to every member, with Delta connections onward across the US on the same award. Just remember the 8 September Light-fare caveat: book on or after that date and lounge access is no longer bundled, so factor that into the value.

The Swiss angle

What this means
for Swiss residents

Switzerland sits in Flying Blue's Europe 1 zone — the same bracket as France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, and Belgium. All European-origin Promo Award discounts apply to flights departing ZRH and GVA. You are not at any disadvantage compared to a French or Dutch member.

The practical play for September: a round-trip economy award to a North American city is 37,500 miles return (18,750 × 2); to Singapore, Osaka, or Abidjan it's 45,000 (22,500 × 2). A round-trip Business Class seat to Minneapolis or Mexico City is 90,000 miles return (45,000 × 2) — the same as a single one-way at the standard transatlantic rate.

September's headline is Minneapolis in Business Class for 45,000 miles one-way — the first transatlantic lie-flat discount since the summer. Book it before 8 September if lounge access matters to you.
