What this is —
and isn't
This isn't a claim that we're scanning every route in real time — nobody credibly is, and treat any site that implies otherwise with suspicion. What this is: pattern-level guidance, not live availability data — a quarterly pass through what actually determines whether you'll find a Business Class seat: booking-window timing, structural changes to the programme, and which partner airlines tend to have room when Air France and KLM's own metal doesn't. For this month's specific discounted routes, see the Promo Awards guide instead — that one does track the live monthly list.
We keep this quarterly page for Flying Blue specifically, not Miles & More, because it's the programme where checking actually pays off — in our own searching, Business Class space has consistently been easier to find here, and worth the recurring effort of tracking it this closely.
The booking window
Nothing has changed here since last quarter: Air France and KLM still release award space up to 359 days before departure — roughly 11-12 months out, loading on a rolling basis each night (Paris time). Codeshare and partner-operated segments can lag behind. If a route you want shows nothing today, that's not necessarily a "no" — it may just not be open yet.
For Q4 that window has a seasonal edge: anyone eyeing summer 2027 or autumn 2027 holidays is now inside the bookable range for most of those dates, and peak-season Business Class on popular routes tends to go early. Two habits still matter more than any single tip: search using Flying Blue's calendar view (a full month of pricing at once), and check again 1-2 weeks before departure — last-minute Business Class inventory does get released as airlines finalise loads.
This quarter's biggest factor —
Light, Standard, Flex
Since 8 September 2026, every new award booking on a flight operated by Air France or KLM comes in one of three fares. Light keeps roughly the old headline mileage price but drops the checked bag and flexibility. Standard matches the conditions awards used to include, and typically costs around 25-30% more miles than Light. Flex adds free changes and refunds and seat selection on top. La Première is excluded, partner-operated awards are unchanged, and an itinerary mixing AF/KLM with a partner flight only offers Standard.
Last quarter the question was whether to book before the change. This quarter it's about reading prices correctly afterwards. The headline "from X miles" figure you see in a search, or in a blog post, is now usually the Light fare — so before comparing it with what you used to pay, check which tier it is and what it leaves out. One softener: if your Flying Blue status already gives you benefits like a checked bag, seat selection or lounge access, you keep those on a Light booking, which makes Light much better value for Silver-and-above members than for everyone else.
Promo Awards sit on top of this. When a monthly Promo Award shows a price on an AF/KLM-operated route, check which fare tier it applies to before you assume it compares like-for-like with an older pre-September price. Our September 2026 Promo Awards post is the most recent monthly edition we've published.
Partner airlines
worth checking
Since the fare split only applies to Air France and KLM's own flights, partner awards matter more this quarter than last: they still price the old way, with the old inclusions. The same combinations keep coming up as genuinely useful, not just theoretically available:
- Korean Air to and within Asia: still bookable with Flying Blue miles, and still worth checking against Air France/KLM's own Asia routes — though space has been less predictable as the Korean Air-Asiana integration continues, so don't count on it without searching
- Air Europa to South America: the same pattern on the South America corridor, via Madrid — worth checking before assuming Air France's own Paris-South America routes are the only option
- Oman Air: a Flying Blue partner since June 2024 — see our Oman Air Business Class trip report for what the actual product and booking mechanics look like
- SkyTeam partners generally (Delta, SAS, and others) are excluded from the monthly Promo Awards discount, but that also means their availability isn't subject to the same demand spikes a discount creates — sometimes the undiscounted partner seat is easier to actually get than the discounted one everyone else is chasing
The cheapest number on the screen isn't the price anymore. It's the price of the fare that leaves the most out.
This quarter's
checklist
- Check which fare tier you're looking at — on AF/KLM flights the headline price is usually Light, not Standard
- Search the calendar view, not single dates — it surfaces cheaper days you'd otherwise miss
- Start summer 2027 searches now — most of those dates are already inside the 359-day window
- Price a partner routing alongside AF/KLM — Korean Air for Asia, Air Europa for South America; partner awards kept their old pricing and inclusions
- Recheck 1-2 weeks before departure — last-minute inventory does open up
- Keep building the balance in the meantime — the Viseca Flying Blue World Mastercard earns directly with no transfer loss, and Revolut's 1:1 transfer covers the gap on everything else
