The partnership
at a glance

Since September 15, 2025, the Lufthansa Group and Marriott have partnered up: linking your Miles & More account to your Marriott Bonvoy account gets you benefits in both directions — Miles & More status points from hotel stays, and an automatic elite status match for existing frequent flyers. The terms were improved further in early 2026.

The lever

Status points from
Marriott stays

For every paid stay at a participating Marriott Bonvoy hotel, you earn 40 status points in your Miles & More account. As of 2026, a single night is enough — previously, two consecutive nights were required.

At a glance
The catch

What the points
aren't

Important for reaching status: the 120 possible annual points count as status points, but not as "Qualifying Points." That means they reduce your overall status target but don't replace the mandatory requirement of miles/segments flown with Lufthansa Group airlines. For Senator or HON Circle, you still need the airline-based core — the Marriott points are a supplement, not a substitute.

Realistically: three Marriott stays a year gets you 120 extra status points — nice, but not a replacement for the flown miles that make up the core of your status.

The other direction

Automatic
Bonvoy status

If you're already Senator or HON Circle with Miles & More, you get automatic Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status in return — no stay or minimum spend required at Marriott. Frequent Traveller (the entry tier) doesn't get an automatic match.

The limit

No
points-to-miles conversion

Unlike some credit card partnerships, there's no conversion rate between Marriott Bonvoy points and Miles & More miles. On each stay, you choose whether to earn Bonvoy points or Miles & More miles — not both at once. If you choose Miles & More miles instead of Bonvoy points, you don't earn any of the 40 status points on that route.

How many Miles & More status points do I get for a Marriott stay? +

40 status points per paid stay, since 2026 from just one night. The annual cap is 120 points — a maximum of three credited stays per calendar year.

Do Marriott points replace flown miles for Senator status? +

No. The points count as status points but not as "Qualifying Points" — the core requirement of miles flown with Lufthansa Group airlines still applies.

Do I get automatic Bonvoy status as a Miles & More member? +

Only if you're Senator or HON Circle — then you get automatic Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite. The entry tier, Frequent Traveller, gets no match.

Can I convert Bonvoy points into Miles & More miles? +

No, there's no conversion rate between the two currencies. You choose per stay whether to earn Bonvoy points or Miles & More miles.
