This isn't a claim that we're scanning every route in real time — nobody credibly is, and treat any site that implies otherwise with suspicion. What this is: a quarterly pass through the patterns that actually determine whether you'll find a Business Class seat — booking-window timing, structural changes to the programme, and which partner airlines tend to have room when Air France and KLM's own metal doesn't. We keep this quarterly page for Flying Blue specifically, not Miles & More, because it's the programme where checking actually pays off — in our own searching, Business Class space has consistently been easier to find here, and worth the recurring effort of tracking it this closely.
The booking window
Air France and KLM release award space up to 359 days before departure — roughly 11-12 months out. Codeshare and partner-operated segments can lag behind, sometimes only appearing in the 305-359-day range. If a route you want shows nothing today, that's not necessarily a "no" — it may just not be open yet.
Two practical habits matter more than any single tip: search using Flying Blue's calendar view (it shows a full month of pricing at once, rather than forcing you to check date by date), and check again 1-2 weeks before departure — last-minute Business Class inventory does get released as airlines finalise loads, on top of whatever was open at the 359-day mark.

8 September
From 8 September 2026, Flying Blue splits Air France- and KLM-operated award tickets into Light, Standard, and Flex fare tiers. A Business award priced around 60,000 miles today — with lounge access and free changes included — becomes the new "Light" tier at the same 60,000 miles, but without those perks. Matching today's benefit level costs roughly 75,000 miles under "Standard" instead. Bookings confirmed before the 8th keep current terms. This only affects Air France/KLM-operated flights — partner awards (Oman Air, Korean Air, and others) are unaffected.
For anyone with a Business Class trip on Air France or KLM metal planned for later this year or into 2027, the practical read is simple: if the itinerary and dates are already firm, there's a real case for locking in before 8 September rather than waiting for a better Promo Award to show up. If your plans are still loose, the calculation is closer — a Promo Award discount can still make "Standard" cheaper than paying full price for "Light" benefits later, so don't panic-book something half-formed just to beat the deadline.
Partner airlines
worth checking
Flying Blue miles book more than Air France and KLM's own aircraft, and partner space isn't touched by the September changes at all. Two combinations come up repeatedly as genuinely useful, not just theoretically available:
- Korean Air to Asia: regularly cited as offering better Business Class fares or availability than booking Air France/KLM's own Asia routes directly
- Air Europa to South America: the same pattern applies on the South America corridor — worth checking before assuming Air France's own Paris-South America routes are the only option

- SkyTeam partners generally (Delta, SAS, and others) are excluded from the monthly Promo Awards discount, but that also means their availability isn't subject to the same demand spikes a 25-50% discount creates — sometimes the undiscounted partner seat is easier to actually get than the discounted one everyone else is chasing
A discount you can't book is worth nothing. A full-price seat that's actually available is worth more than people give it credit for.

checklist
- Search the calendar view, not single dates — it surfaces cheaper days you'd otherwise miss
- If a firm Business Class trip is planned on AF/KLM metal, price it before 8 September — lock in current benefits at current mileage cost
- Check Korean Air and Air Europa specifically if your route touches Asia or South America — don't default to Air France/KLM's own routing
- Recheck 1-2 weeks before departure — last-minute inventory does open up
