What changed —
and where
American Express Platinum has, in several markets, included complimentary access to Lufthansa Business Lounges when flying a Lufthansa Group airline on an eligible fare — a genuinely useful perk precisely because it doesn't depend on Miles & More elite status or a premium cabin ticket. Effective 1 October 2026, that benefit was withdrawn for the US-issued and Germany-issued Amex Platinum cards. The change was first flagged back in April 2026 alongside a separate update expanding Amex's own airfare-discount benefits, and the lounge-access removal itself is confirmed by independent reporting from both Thrifty Traveler and The Points Guy.
If you hold a US or German Amex Platinum and have been relying on this for a Frankfurt or Munich connection, that access is now gone. What we couldn't find anywhere is a matching statement for the card most of our readers actually hold: the Swiss-issued Amex Platinum, from American Express's Swiss entity at americanexpress.ch.
The open question
for Swiss cardholders
Amex Platinum isn't one single global product. It's issued separately by market, and the Swiss version has its own benefits package, its own fees, and its own terms — points we've covered in detail in our full Amex Platinum Switzerland review. A benefit change confirmed for the US or German card is not automatically in effect for the Swiss one, and the reverse is just as true: Swiss cardholders have ended up both better and worse off than their US or German counterparts on other benefits in the past, depending on the specific term.
As of this writing, we found no public statement from American Express Switzerland confirming or denying that the Lufthansa Lounge cutback applies to the CH-issued card. That's not the same as it being safe — it just means the question hasn't been answered publicly yet, at least not anywhere we could find it.
- Confirmed: US-issued and Germany-issued Amex Platinum lose complimentary Lufthansa Lounge access from 1 October 2026
- Not confirmed either way: whether the Swiss-issued Amex Platinum is included in this change
- Not found: any statement on americanexpress.ch addressing this specific benefit for the Swiss card as of this writing
The honest answer right now is: we don't know, and neither does anyone publishing about it in English or German. That uncertainty is exactly why it's worth checking before you need the lounge, not after.
How to find out
for yourself
Two ways to get a definitive answer for your own card, both faster and more reliable than anything we could publish here:
#1 — Check your current benefits guide
Log into your Amex account on americanexpress.ch and pull up the current Platinum benefits guide (sometimes listed as the cardmember guide or benefits terms). Lufthansa Lounge access, if still included, will be listed explicitly under travel benefits — if it's been removed, the guide should no longer mention it.
#2 — Call Amex Switzerland directly
If the guide is ambiguous or you can't find a recently dated version, call Amex Switzerland customer service and ask specifically about Lufthansa Business Lounge access on your Platinum card. This is the most reliable route if you have a trip coming up and need a definite answer rather than a documented one.
What to do
while you wait
If you have an upcoming connection through Frankfurt or Munich, or a departure from Zürich, and you were planning to use Amex Platinum for lounge access, confirm it before you travel rather than finding out at the lounge door. If it turns out the benefit is gone, you're not out of options: Miles & More elite status (Frequent Traveller and above) gives lounge access independent of any credit card, and our lounge access guide for Switzerland covers every other card- and status-based route in, including which cards still reliably deliver it.
We'll update this page the moment we find an official answer either way. If you've confirmed this directly with Amex Switzerland yourself, we'd genuinely like to hear what they told you.
Let's map out what actually works for your routes.
Card-based access is shifting under the whole industry's feet right now. In 30 minutes we'll work out which combination of cards, status and one-off passes actually covers the airports you fly through.
Book a session — CHF 79 →Has American Express confirmed Amex Platinum Switzerland loses Lufthansa Lounge access? +
Not that we could find. The cutback, effective 1 October 2026, is confirmed for the US-issued and Germany-issued Amex Platinum cards. No statement from American Express's Swiss entity on americanexpress.ch addresses the Swiss-issued card specifically, as of this writing.
Why might the Swiss card be different from the US or German one? +
Amex Platinum is issued separately in different markets, and the Swiss version has historically carried its own benefits package, fees and terms rather than mirroring the US or German card exactly. A change confirmed for one market isn't automatically in effect for another.
How can I check whether my Amex Platinum Switzerland still has Lufthansa Lounge access? +
Check the current benefits guide on americanexpress.ch under your card's terms, or call Amex Switzerland customer service directly and ask specifically about Lufthansa Business Lounge access. Do this before a trip where you're relying on it, particularly a connection through Frankfurt or Munich.
What are my options if Amex Platinum no longer covers Lufthansa Lounge access? +
Miles & More elite status (Frequent Traveller and above) gives independent lounge access that doesn't depend on any credit card. Our lounge-access guide for Switzerland covers the other card- and status-based routes in if this one is no longer available to you.
