Where this card fits —
the low-cost second Amex

Amex Gold isn't a smaller version of Amex Platinum with worse benefits across the board — it shares the same transfer ratios, the same programme flexibility, and a much lower entry fee. What it doesn't have is Priority Pass lounge access, and its standard welcome bonus is a third the size of Platinum's.

Promo status: the elevated 40,000-point offer referenced on this page ran through 25 August 2026 and has ended. The standard 15,000-point bonus applies now. Check the Card Offers page or americanexpress.ch directly for the current figure — a new promo may open at any time.

We cover it alongside its competitors in our Amex Membership Rewards transfer guide and the full Swiss credit card comparison — this page is the focused, standalone version.

American Express Gold Switzerland Low-cost second Amex

Welcome bonus (standard)

15,000 MR pts

Earning rate

1 MR / CHF 1

Annual fee

CHF 350 (CHF 175 yr 1)

Why it works

  • Half the annual fee of Amex Platinum, with the same transfer flexibility
  • Half-price first-year fee (CHF 175)
  • Transferable to Miles & More, Flying Blue, and the same 10+ programmes as Platinum
  • Can be held alongside Platinum to stack a second welcome bonus

The trade-offs

  • No Priority Pass or lounge access of any kind
  • Standard 15,000-point bonus is modest — only compelling during an elevated promo
  • Same 2:1 transfer ratio tax as Platinum on every point moved to M&M/Flying Blue
  • Promo windows are time-limited and specific — verify dates before applying

Pick your situation

If you already hold

Amex Platinum → Gold is a legitimate stack, not a replacement

Swisscard doesn't restrict holding both — a second welcome bonus on top of Platinum's, for a modest additional fee, is a reasonable way to top up in the same year.

If an elevated promo

Is confirmed active → apply before it ends

40,000 points at a CHF 175 first-year fee is a genuinely strong ratio when the promo is live — but verify the current status first, since these windows close on fixed dates.

If you want

Just one Amex, and lounge access matters → Platinum instead

At the standard bonus level, Platinum's larger welcome event and unlimited lounge access justify the higher fee better than Gold does on its own. See the Amex Platinum review.

The other side

The case for the
low-cost second Amex

Gold's standard bonus alone doesn't make a strong case — 15,000 MR points (7,500 miles after the 2:1 transfer) for a CHF 350 fee is unremarkable next to Cornèrcard's 10,000-mile bonus at CHF 220. Where Gold earns its place is specifically as a second card: applying for it after Platinum, or instead of Platinum when lounge access isn't a priority.

Gold isn't trying to be the best Amex. It's the cheapest way to hold a second Amex account and access its promo cycle again — that's a narrower job, but it's a real one.

The elevated promo changes this calculation substantially — 40,000 points at CHF 175 for the first year is genuinely competitive, closer to Amex Platinum's value proposition at a fraction of the fee. That's exactly why the current status matters more here than on almost any other card on this site: the standard and promotional versions of this card are barely comparable products.

FAQ

Frequently asked
questions

Is the Swisscard Amex Gold worth it? +

At the standard 15,000-point welcome bonus, it's a marginal pick — a good low-cost second Amex for stacking, but not a standout on its own. During an elevated promo (verify the current status before applying — the last confirmed window ran through 25 August 2026), the calculation changes significantly.

Should I get Amex Gold or Amex Platinum? +

Platinum for the bigger one-time bonus and unlimited lounge access. Gold if you already have Platinum (or don't value lounge access) and want a second, cheaper Amex to stack bonuses across issuers — both share the same transfer ratios to Miles & More and Flying Blue.

Can I hold both Amex Platinum and Amex Gold at the same time? +

Yes — Swisscard doesn't restrict holding multiple Amex products simultaneously, and each carries its own separate welcome bonus. Stacking both is a legitimate way to maximise a single year's earning.
